On March 16 and 17, the acrobatic play Swan will be staged at the Guangdong Art Theatre as one of the excellent works of the 15th Guangdong Arts Festival.
Integrating drama, acrobatics and ballet, Swan tells a story of an acrobat. It presents the birth of ballet on-shoulder acrobatic performance and the behind-the-scenes of the first-ever acrobatic ballet—Swan Lake.
This show features Wei Baohua and Wu Zhengdan, the originators of the ballet on-shoulder acrobatic performance. At the 26th International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo in 2002, Wu and Wei won the Golden Clown Award, the highest award in the acrobatic field, for their unique ballet on-shoulder performance.
Inspired by this new stunt, Zhao Ming, director of Swan, choreographed the acrobatic ballet Swan Lakein 2004, showcasing the classical ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky through a new art form.
Created and performed by the Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe of China, the acrobatic show Swan often won spontaneous and prolonged applause from audiences during the performances. "We all have a dream of becoming a swan," said Wu Zhengdan. "I believe the most significant breakthrough of Swan lies in its sincere and heartfelt portrayal. I hope it will resonate with everyone."
