The century-old Shuangqing Building in Haizhu District, Guangzhou, recently reopened to the public after restoration, welcoming visitors with an exhibition project.
Originally the residence of the democratic revolutionaries Liao Zhongkai and He Xiangning after their marriage in 1897, the rooftop attic they built together as their "bridal chamber" was named Shuangqing Building, meaning that "both the people and the moon are pure invariably."
After living in the Shuangqing Building for five years, the couple traveled to Japan where they met Chinese revolutionary statesman Sun Yat-sen, setting foot on the path of revolution. This old house not only witnessed their profound love but also served as the birthplace of their revolutionary ideals.
This restoration and exhibition project of the Shuangqing Building vividly showcases the revolutionary deeds of Liao Zhongkai and He Xiangning, their life stories in this building, and their family traditions, through detailed texts, images, and precious historical documents.
Furthermore, the project introduces interactive experiences such as projections and virtual page flipping, providing visitors with immersive and multidimensional experiences during the exhibition.
In conjunction with this project, the local sub-district also built Shuangqing Plaza, enhancing the surrounding residential environment.
