Grids and Pyramids: Exhibition of Art by Liu Yanhu
What will happen when the points, lines and planes are blended in the creation of Chinese calligraphy? Heilongjiang artist Liu Yanhu innovatively integrated the aesthetics of abstract form into traditional calligraphic writing. With grid patterns, Liu created his own style of artwork full of layouts in a well-ordered way.
His clay works are fluent and elegant, with a striking contrast between squares and circles, curves and straight lines. His recent artworks include three-dimensional installations and multicolor rubbings, which have taken in the formal elements of Western postmodern art. The shapes originated from the geometric construction elements of the universe and embody the broad and profound concept of space in ancient China, such as the round sky and square earth.

Pursuing simplicity, she eliminates elaborate techniques and retains the true feelings that she wants to express the most. She records life and explores self-growth with an innocent and honest mind, completing the dialogue between herself and the external world on a blank canvas.
Her works are always highly recognizable: whether depicting different shapes, emotions and colourful figures on square wooden panels, or different series of thematic works that fuse two-dimensional and three-dimensional concepts, they all carry a strong artistic identity that is unique to her.

The old objects include bed linen, tablecloths, plates, furniture and ambassador uniforms.
