According to Monking He, Chancellor of GUIS, the school stands as the first school in Guangzhou to enroll children of returned talents after studying abroad and the first expatriate children's school in the city to receive certification from the Trade and Industry Department of the Government of Hong Kong SAR.
An official from the Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau revealed at the inauguration ceremony that, Guangzhou's education system boasts over 1,600 foreign teachers, more than 9,000 international students, and over 18,000 students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The city has 18 international schools for expatriate children, three schools for children of Hong Kong and Macao residents, 16 high schools with cooperative educational programs between China and foreign countries encompassing 17 projects, and 85 pilot classes for children of Hong Kong and Macao residents in 14 schools across seven districts.
"The establishment of GUIS will undoubtedly enrich Guangzhou's international basic education system and attract more high-quality talents from Hong Kong, Macao, and overseas countries and regions to pursue innovation and entrepreneurship in the city," the official added.
Ouyang Jianhua, Deputy District Mayor of Nansha, stated that in recent years, the district government has focused on accelerating the clustering of high-quality educational resources, enhancing public service levels, and optimizing the business environment. They have tailored a more livable and business-friendly environment for expatriates, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan compatriots, as well as high-level talents returning from abroad.
He emphasized that Nansha District will continue to provide solid support and assistance to various educational institutions, including GUIS, in accordance with laws and regulations.
