A giant pink bear appeared on Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, attracting numerous tourists to take photos. This marked the grand opening of the 10-day carnival of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao music and cuisine. From July 19 to 28, visitors can taste authentic Xiguan snacks and cuisines at the markets while enjoying local band music during the event.
Visitors to the renowned Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street were immersed in the rich cultural heritage of Xiguan and experienced the strong cultural resonance of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. The bustling and diverse food market attracted countless foodies who came to taste, collect stamps at scenic spots, participate in city walks, and enjoy special offers and gifts, creating a small tourism boom in the summer season.
Using the "AIYO" mini-program, visitors can follow AR technology that seamlessly blends reality with virtuality, led by an AI tour guide, through the century-old arcaded corridor. Following AIYO, visitors can explore historical sites such as Hualin Temple, the Jinlun Guild Hall (a former guild hall for the silk weaving industry in the Qing Dynasty), and the Barwo Artists Association of Kwangtung (Cantonese Opera Academy). Visitors also have the opportunity to receive consumption coupons and mysterious gifts by participating in activities in the mini-program.
As night fell, the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Pop Music Night" took the stage at Shangxiajiu Square, featuring Macao's original band "One Way Street" performing their meticulously crafted works, and the locally popular band "B.I.G" presenting local classic songs, captivating the audience and frequently interacting with them. The square echoed with the aspirations of young people to continue traditions and innovate, evoking strong emotional resonance.
"I've known for a long time that Shangxiajiu is a famous pedestrian street nationwide. Today, I finally arrived and found that the arcaded building style of this pedestrian street is well-preserved. Unexpectedly, there are so many historical and cultural relics hidden here, as well as such a vibrant and trendy culture. It feels like traveling back in time," said Mr. Chen, a tourist at the scene.
Special events and performances include: the GBA Classic Golden Songs Party on July 21, the Rising Tide in Xiguan Night on July 27, and the Chinese Style Fashion Show and Hanfu Parade on July 28. On July 23 and 25 at 6 p.m., visitors can also participate in open fitness parties at Shangxiajiu Square, featuring BODYCOMBAT (aerobic boxing) and ZUMBA led by celebrity instructors from renowned institutions, adding a unique fervor to the summer nights.
