Guangzhou Cultural Park unveils vibrant Lantern Festival display in 2025
Update: 2025-02-12     Source: GDToday

The Lantern Festival Display at Guangzhou Cultural Park in 2025 will illuminate the nights from February 11th (the 14th day of the Lunar New Year) to 13th (the 16th day of the Lunar New Year), with lights turning on at 18:00 and off at 22:00 each evening.

This lantern festival combines exquisite craftsmanship with rich cultural connotations, integrating lanterns into the floral scenery to create a harmonious display of spring flowers and colorful lanterns. Visitors will immerse themselves in the traditional and authentic charm of Lingnan lantern festivals.

"Cantonese Opera" takes center stage

The highlight of this year's lantern display is "Singing Cantonese Opera, the Better It Gets," located in the Central Plaza. Inspired by Cantonese opera, this lantern installation stretches 22 meters in length and 8 meters in height, featuring grand archways adorned with Cantonese opera headpieces on both sides, creating an impressive classical ambiance. The magnificent headpieces are adorned with over 500 beaded ornaments and 220 flashing lights, shining brightly and exuding elegance.

"GBA" blends like a tapestry of flowers

The lantern festival widely employs eco-friendly materials, seamlessly blending into the park's waterscapes and treescapes to create a dazzling display of fireworks and colorful lights.

In the Southwest Plaza, the lantern installation "Radiant Greater Bay Area, A Tapestry of Blossoming Flowers" draws inspiration from the architectural and scenic landmarks of cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It beautifully presents the integration and development of the Greater Bay Area in culture, technology, and more. Composed of five vase-shaped columns, the lanterns are adorned with painted landmarks of cities such as Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macao, topped with lanterns in the shape of each city's floral emblem, such as the red cotton tree, bauhinia, and lotus, signifying the Greater Bay Area's flourishing future.

Lanterns and flowers illuminate the night

A notable feature of the lantern festival is the integration of floral arrangements and lanterns, allowing visitors to enjoy flowers by day and lanterns by night. Along the eastern axis of the main entrance, the installations utilize unique techniques to create landmarks like the Canton Tower, the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong, and the Ruins of St. Paul's in Macao out of tangerines and floral arrangements.

Traditional elements add a festive atmosphere

The lantern installations cleverly incorporate traditional Chinese auspicious cultural elements. The main entrance archway features a hundred "Fu" (good fortune) gates adorned with over a hundred different "Fu" characters and various festive symbols such as the God of Wealth, lettuce, peanuts, and carp, showcasing traditional festive characteristics. Notably, a cartoon God of Wealth sits atop a rocket, perfectly integrating tradition with modernity, symbolizing prosperous fortune descending upon visitors.

During the Lantern Festival, Guangzhou Cultural Park will also host a series of cultural activities, including the "New Vitality in the Blissful Goat City" Lantern Festival Cultural Performance, lantern riddle contests, calligraphy and painting exhibitions, storytelling, and chess games, providing visitors with a cultural feast for the Lantern Festival.
