Update: 2024-12-09     Source: GDToday

The annual Guangzhou Marathon will kick off on December 8. Its 42.195-kilometer course connects iconic landmarks and cultural sites, weaving through historic arcade streets and a bustling modern CBD. Let's explore the highlights along the 2024 Guangzhou Marathon route!

Tianhe Sports Center

The marathon begins at the historic Tianhe Sports Center, built in 1984 to host the 6th National Games. Since its completion in 1987, it has hosted numerous large-scale events, including the Asian Games. Now, it's gearing up for the 15th National Games, continuing its legacy as a sporting hub.

Pearl River

At the 3-kilometer mark, runners will first encounter the enchanting scenery of the iconic Pearl River. It is the third longest river in China, stretching for over 2,000 kilometers. It flows through Guangzhou in southern China and has witnessed the city's modernization.

Pazhou Bridge

This bridge spans the Pearl River, connecting key districts of Guangzhou. From here, people can enjoy panoramic views of the flowing river and the bustling cityscape on both sides.

Liede Bridge

Liede Bridge, with its unique design and iconic shell-shaped tower, has become one of Guangzhou's most recognizable landmarks, blending engineering with art.

Canton Fair Complex

Located on Pazhou Island, the Canton Fair Complex is one of the world's largest convention centers. It serves as a global platform for showcasing cutting-edge innovations and fostering international business connections.

Huanan Bridge

Built in 1998, the Huanan Bridge is an essential part of Guangzhou's transport network. This busy thoroughfare buzzes with energy, with views of the rushing river below.

Canton Tower

Affectionately known as "Little Waist," Canton Tower is a symbol of Guangzhou. Opened in 2010, this architectural marvel dazzles with its modern design and vibrant light displays, making it a favorite destination for locals and visitors.

Sun Yat-sen University

Founded in 1924 by Sun Yat-sen, the leader of the fledgling democratic government of China, this prestigious university boasts the serene South Campus with historic architecture and lush greenery, echoing the stories of its century-old legacy.

Memorial Museum of Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen's Mansion

Located on the southern bank of the Pearl River, the former site of Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen's Mansion has been transformed into a memorial museum. The complex comprises two Victorian-style buildings, displaying Guangzhou's history of the revolutionary era and offering insights into the life and great deeds of the forerunner of China's democratic revolution.

Renmin Bridge

Renmin Bridge, built in 1967, was Guangzhou's first bridge over the Pearl River after the founding of the PRC in 1949. Linking Liwan and Haizhu districts, it provides some of the best sunset views of the river, with historic landmarks like the Guangdong Customs House visible from its vantage point.

Dongshan Lake Park

Originally built in 1930, Dongshan Lake Park is a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city. Its shimmering lake, verdant trees, and charming pavilions make it a favorite spot for locals to relax and connect with nature.

Ersha Island

Encircled by the Pearl River, Ersha Island is a cultural oasis in Guangzhou. Home to art venues like the Xinghai Concert Hall, sports facilities, and lush landscapes, it offers a harmonious blend of culture and leisure.

Haixinsha Asian Games Park

The marathon ends at Haixinsha, an island positioned on the new central axis of Guangzhou. This place was transformed into Haixinsha Asian Games Park after the 2010 Asian Games, offering the scenery of seasonal flowers and becoming a cultural and artistic hub.
