The Guangzhou Chimelong Tourist Resort is set for a major upgrade.
Currently, the resort features four major attractions: Chimelong Safari Park, Chimelong Paradise, Chimelong Water Park, and Chimelong International Circus, attracting over 16 million visitors annually. It has become a hallmark of Guangzhou's tourism industry. After more than a decade of development, the Chimelong-Wanbo area has become a key focus of construction in Guangzhou's Panyu District.
How will Chimelong Tourist Resort evolve into an international tourism brand? Guangzhou has unveiled a new plan.
A key highlight of the plan is the development of a new "one core, four parks" layout for Chimelong Tourist Resort. This involves constructing a new world-class theme park covering 43 hectares, alongside Chimelong Safari Park, Chimelong Water Park, Chimelong Paradise, and a "resort hub". The new theme park will be connected with existing parks to the east and north, while the west will expand to meet tourism demands, offering a comprehensive tourism experience that includes the new park, hotels, parking structures, and supporting tourism facilities. The southern section will integrate with open public urban spaces, providing a combination of cultural, commercial, tourism, and sports amenities.
The 43-hectare theme park will offer upgraded attractions and a deeper immersive experience. Additionally, there will be a central park covering 9 hectares, themed around cultural and recreational activities for residents. A 13-hectare tourist transportation plaza will integrate tourist distribution plaza, parking structures and bus terminals. A 15-hectare themed district is planned as an open recreational street featuring cultural tourism, shopping, dining, studios, and accommodations.
Accessibility is a crucial factor for the success of the new theme park. Therefore, the plan proposes improving the secondary and branch road network to enhance transportation links to Chimelong and its surrounding areas. A green traffic calming network will also be built, encircling the resort with a continuous ecological space. This network will connect key points such as metro and bus stations and commercial areas, with bicycle parking available at these locations to ensure smooth and sustainable transportation options.
