Major Projects
Guangzhou to build general airports in five districts
Update: 2024-05-21     Source: GDToday

Recently, the General Affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal People's Government issued an outline plan for the building of a comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network.

In terms of the airport, the plan mentions the construction of five general airports in five districts of Guangzhou, namely Panyu district, Zengcheng district, Nansha district, Conghua district, and Huangpu district.

This measure aims to improve the overall layout of helicopter takeoff and landing points, the supporting facilities such as flight service stations, as well as the low-altitude flight service system in order to build a low-altitude flight service network.

In addition, it is also necessary to accelerate the construction of the Pearl River Delta Hub (Guangzhou New) Airport, along with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, to build a Guangzhou international aviation hub and a world-class airport cluster in the GBA. Moreover, the T3 of the Phase III expansion project of Baiyun Airport was recently completed.

According to the plan, a high-speed railway station will be built at Baiyun International Airport T3, and space will be reserved for Guangzhou North Station T4 and special railway lines. By 2030, the passenger throughput of the airport is expected to reach 120 million, and the cargo handling capacity to reach 3.8 million tons. By 2045, these numbers are projected to increase to 140 million passengers and 6 million tons of cargo, respectively.

The plan clearly states the need to achieve the "1-2-3-12 circles" for passenger trips by 2035. This means reaching major cities in the GBA within 1 hour, the eastern, western, and northern regions of Guangdong within 2 hours, major cities in China and Southeast Asia within 3 hours, and the major cities worldwide within approximately 12 hours. At the same time, the plan aims to achieve the "1-2-3 circles" for the transportation of goods, with delivery within 1 day to domestic cities, 2 days to major cities in Southeast Asia, and 3 days to major cities worldwide.

The plan also mentions the high-speed maglev lines and experimental lines between Guangzhou and other metropolises. In the future, travel time will be reduced to within 1 hour in the GBA, within 2 hours with cities in Guangdong province, within 3 hours with neighboring provincial capitals, and within 5 to 8 hours with major city clusters in the country.
