By June 2025, it will only take 15 minutes to travel from downtown Guangzhou to the city’s South Railway Station. This will greatly facilitate residents' travel during holidays and peak hours, compared to the current situation.
With a total length of 4.35 kilometers, Haizhu Bay Tunnel runs through Haizhu District and Panyu District in Guangzhou. It is in the northern section of the Guangzhou South Station Express Channel.
As of now, all the tunnel segments have been poured, laying a solid foundation for the shield tunnel to be connected by this July. The mainline has two-way six lanes with a design speed of 60 km/h.
The total investment in the project is 11.68 billion yuan. The shield section is 2,077 meters long, and the excavation diameter is 15.07 meters, while the outer diameter of the segment is 14.5 meters.
So far, 71 percent of the project has been finished. The whole project is expected to be open to traffic by June 2025.
Upon completion, it is expected to provide easier access to Guangzhou South Railway Station, as well as further support Guangzhou's position as a comprehensive transportation hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
