On December 24th, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the PRC announced a new batch of 38 excellent cases of beautiful rivers and lakes, with two cases from Guangdong – the Zengjiang River (Guangzhou Section) and the Gaoming River in Foshan – being selected. The selected cases have achieved remarkable results in water environment, water resources, water ecology, and harmony between humans and water.
The Zengjiang River (Guangzhou Section) flows through Zengcheng District of Guangzhou, where extensive construction of greenways and riverside paths has been carried out, aquatic habitat restoration has been implemented, wetland restoration and renovation have been conducted, and an ecological corridor for fish migration exceeding 100 kilometers has been created.
The water quality has stably improved to reach Grade II, making it a model for constructing and restoring river and lake ecological corridors in water-rich regions. The Zengjiang Gallery has also been selected as one of the top ten typical cases of high-quality development of national water conservancy scenic areas.
Originating from Laoxiangshan in Gehe, the Gaoming River runs through the entire territory of Gaoming and is known as the "mother river" of the area. The water quality of the Gaoming River has continued to improve. New greenways of 95 kilometers and wetlands of 66 hectares have been built along the entire river basin, creating water-friendly landscapes such as Minghu Lake and Zhihu Lake.
